First the Covid pandemic, now we have to mask this new issue? :(

Well, this is definitely a subject that is getting a lot of discussion in society at the moment, and is becoming a huge problem, since masks became mandatory with in the UK

Not only potentially to our health, but also soon to be a seas and water ways, along with our countryside areas.

The main issue here , is more a social responsibility, as people seem to think that the discarding of masks (on our buses and paved areas) does not matter, as " someone will pick it up " etc....

One of the problems with this thinking is that the virus can live on the mask , beyond when it is discarded, see facts below.

• Cloth for up to 1 day.

• Glass for up to 2 days.

• Bank notes for up to 2 days.

• The inner layer of a mask for up to 4 days

• The outer layer of a mask for up to 4 days

Although all surfaces which contain the virus, are important , but the last 2 really stand out, and is quite frightening in many respects, as in effect this means anyone who potentially walks with 2 metres of the discarded mask , can become infected.

Remove PPE carefully, and avoid touching the inside of your face covering.

After you remove your PPE or face covering, wash your hands or use hand sanitiser.

If you need to throw away used face coverings or PPE, such as gloves:

dispose of them in your ‘black bag’ waste bin at home or at work, or a litter bin if you’re outside do not put them in a recycling bin as they cannot be recycled through

conventional recycling facilities take them home with you if there is no litter bin - do not drop them as litter

You do not need to:

put them in an extra bag to store them for a time before throwing them away.

So, to wrap the story up, stay safe, and dispose of your masks in the appropriate way, to reduce the risk to others.
